"Everything at NCCU is going really well," Wesley says. "Going to college has been the best decision I've made, and I am enjoying every bit of it. I am doing very well in my classes."
"I believe that my college transition process has been relatively easy. It has had its ups and downs, but college is what you make it. The more you prepare for college, the easier the transition is. In my Reach for College! class, Ms. Holmes taught us everything we needed to know so that the transition process would be easier."
"For the most part I haven't faced any major problems other than having to share space with a roommate. One thing that I can say I've learned is to never procrastinate and wait to the last minute to complete assignments. Your grade will reflect the amount of time you spend on an assignment. So it is very important that you manage your time wisely."
How Reach for College! Helped
"Ms. Holmes and my Reach for College! class have helped me tremendously in my transition process. RfC helped me apply and win two scholarships that helped my financially. RfC helped improve my writing and study skills. RfC helped me begin to get in the mindset of college by teaching me beforehand some of the situations I would encounter, so that I would already be familiar with them. I know I was better prepared for college because of Ms. Holmes and RfC."
Suggestions to Students in His Old High School
"I would suggest to everyone to take full advantage of the Reach for College! class. The hard work will certainly pay off in the long run. Going to college is one of the best things you can do for yourself, all you have to do is be determined to finish no matter what. You can no longer be scared to think outside the box because there is a world full of opportunities. You hold your future and you can't let your friends determine your success because they will still be there when you get back. All you have to do is stay focused and determined to achieve better. There is a lot of fun to be had in college and a lot of opportunities that lay before you. Take charge of your future. Fill out the college applications and apply for the scholarships in RfC because you are qualified. Trust me, everything you do in RfC will be applied to life in college."
